Hey, ya'll today is National pumpkin day! So go to the pumpkin patch and get some pumpkins, or if you already have one and want to celebrate this day, you could carve it.
Pumpkins are so much more than just a fun way to decorate for the holidays. Pumpkins are one of the best places to get beta-carotene, an antioxidant that the body turns into vitamin A. They are also full of fibre, potassium, and vitamin C. On October 26, which is National Pumpkin Day, do yourself a favour and eat a lot of pumpkins (and of course have a little fun carving them).
What Can You Do?
1. Cook Something New At Home
Try making pumpkin a different way today. Never had roasted pumpkin soup with hot spices? How about a smoothie made with pumpkin? How about cinnamon and pickled pumpkin? Make something on your own!
2. Make A Pie, Bread, Or Scone.
Even though pumpkin pies are usually made around the holidays, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a delicious slice of pumpkin pie at any time. But if you think pumpkin pie is only for Thanksgiving or Christmas, try making something else with pumpkin. Pumpkin bread, muffins, and scones are just the beginning.
3. Make A Pumpkin Face
Have some fun with pumpkins, as is customary in October. Find your favourite cartoon character, slogan, or picture on the Internet and have fun carving it into a pumpkin. Print out your design, poke small holes in your pumpkin with a toothpick to transfer the design, and then start carving!
What Is It About Today That We Adore?
1. Pumpkins Are Good For Your Health
Did you know that the potassium in pumpkins can make your blood pressure better? Eating a lot of fibre, potassium, and vitamin C, all of which are found in pumpkins, is also linked to a lower risk of stroke, protection against muscle loss, keeping bone mineral density, and less kidney stone formation. Also, the antioxidants and vitamins in pumpkins could stop the eyes from getting older and worse. So help your body out today and eat some pumpkin.
2. Pumpkins Are Delicious
Pumpkins are a very versatile vegetable that can be used in dishes that are sweet, savoury, spicy, or salty. They can be baked, boiled, steamed, pureed, or even fried. There are so many ways to cook pumpkins and so many flavours you can add to them that everyone is sure to find a way they like.
3. It's Fun To Carve Pumpkins
Carving pumpkins is fun for everyone, and it's a great way to spend time with kids. Invite your neighbours and friends over for a pumpkin carving party, or get out your power tools and get really creative.
