The developer already has employees who operate "completely remotely" from anywhere in the country.
With plans to open a new studio in Sweden in the first half of 2022, Remedy Entertainment, a Finnish developer, is expanding its presence.
In a job posting on Remedy's official website (spotted by GamesIndustry.biz), the studio says it intends to hire up to 25 developers by the end of 2022.
While Remedy, which is best known for horror titles like Alan Wake and paranormal action epic Control, claims "senior-level developers based in Sweden can join us in producing fantastic, genre-defining games on their home land," the new studio will use a hybrid approach that favours remote labour. The announcement comes as the firm claims to have hired "several Sweden–based senior game developers" in the recent year, who have been "working totally remotely from the second-best Nordic country."
"The transition to location-agnostic work in the wake of COVID helped us appreciate that Remedy is a state of mind, rather than a place in Finland," explains Remedy general manager Johnny Mang.
As a result, Remedy intends to construct a "work space" in central Stockholm "for Sweden–based Remedians to be able to get together and work in an office space as needed, because face to face communication is vital in the hybrid model as well."
"We recognise that everyone is different, and that everyone has different demands on various days," James Salt, one of Remedy's game directors who is already located in Sweden, stated. "Some days are best spent concentrated, headphones on, working on something cool, and other days, such as when teams are planning, might benefit from in-person facetime." On every given day, the hybrid model allows people to choose the method that works best for them."
While there's no information on what the Swedish spinoff will be working on just yet, Remedy's careers page already lists the new firm. Rumors abound that an Alan Wake sequel is in the works — theories that Remedy itself has sown – while Control's finale left many things unanswered.
