It took me a while to write this post, and that's the first bit of brutal honesty I'm going to offer. Not because I had a hard time, but because I couldn't help but want to buy every adorable thing I saw on ThredUP. I had ten items in my shopping cart before I realised it, and I had completely lost track of why I had originally visited ThredUP. You could say it has a mild addictive quality.
What is ThredUP?
ThredUP is a website that combines the convenience of online shopping with the low prices you'd expect to find at a thrift store. Consignment store shopping is entertaining, but it will never replace the convenience of online shopping for a shopaholic like me.
ThredUP was created to bridge the gap between online shopping's convenience and the thrift store's low prices. ThredUP is an online marketplace where I can buy gently used clothing at a discount without leaving my house. Since I am a notoriously frugal miser, it should come as no surprise that thrift stores are among my favourite places to browse. This is the only way I feel comfortable buying clothes for my family. ThredUP streamlines the process of buying vintage and pre-owned items.
The question then arises, "What is ThredUP?" ThredUP combines the convenience of online shopping with the bargain prices of consignment stores. It's an online secondhand shop where you can find items from luxury labels like Gucci and other well-known designers at bargain prices.

Simply order a Clean Out Kit from ThredUP, fill it with your unwanted garments, and send it back for free! Once thredUP receives your clothing, they will sort through it to see what can be resold. After that, they will handle everything else, from taking pictures and listing your items to packing and sending them to buyers.

How does thredUP work for a Seller?

- You visit ThredUP and purchase a Clean Out Bag Kit. There is already a shipping label attached to this package for your convenience. They will deduct the cost of the bag from the money you get for the clothes you send in, so it is not free. Thus, if you stand to make $50 for the garments you send in, they will deduct the cost of shipping from that amount.
- You then place the provided label on your box of gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories and send it off. Keep in mind that they have low tolerance for novelty. However, if your closet is full of name-brand items from the previous season, you can expect to receive a larger payout than someone whose closet is filled with generic or store-brand items that are more than three years old.
- ThredUP examines and processes your items. They evaluate the items and send you an email with a price for the ones they think will sell. Indeed, many were taken aback by what they interpreted to be such a low offer. Do not, under any circumstances, expect to recoup the full purchase price of any item, not even one of high quality or renown.
- You have 10 days to consider their offers and make a decision. If you agree, we will transfer your earnings to your PayPal account (less a $10 processing fee per item sold) as soon as we receive confirmation of your acceptance. ThredUP will place your unwanted items in a donation bag and send them to a charity or recycle them if you decline.
- After you've decided to take one of their offers, all there is left to do is wait for a buyer to come along. However, you no longer have any obligations.
How does ThredUP work for a Buyer?
From a shopper's perspective, the best way to describe ThredUP is as the offspring of online retail and secondhand stores. It's like getting the best of both worlds: the prices are competitive with secondhand stores, consignment shops, and thrift stores, but you don't have to spend hours searching through racks of clothing to find what you're looking for.
The selection can be narrowed based on your sizes (which you can select when you create an account and have remembered). The use of a specific hue, pattern, or design element can also help you zero in on exactly what you're looking for ( they have an option for glitter, animal print, florals, and more).

Selling clothes on ThredUP
Firstly, if you want to make money off of ThredUP by selling your gently used clothing, you should know the following.
ThredUP will pay you for the clothes you send them in a "clean out kit" bag. Simply put your items in the bag and take it with you to the post office.
Before accepting your clothing for resale, they check it for stains and damage (a tear is usually a deal breaker). They want to make sure they're getting fashionable, high-quality goods that will sell well secondhand.
However, I've heard that they'll offer a ridiculously low price for everything. You will need to pay for return shipping if you want to get items back that they didn't want. The "payment" you receive will be in the form of store credit or an electronic payment service like PayPal or Stripe.
Is ThredUP worth it?
It's my opinion that ThredUP is reasonably priced. Listen, I get that there are a lot of people who are wary of using a platform that functions like an online thrift store, and I do understand those concerns. BUT. No one can argue with the benefits of ThredUP if they are the type of person who despises paying full price for anything and who is all for helping the environment by purchasing pre-owned clothing.
You can save a tonne of time and energy compared to browsing through local consignment and thrift stores because of the low prices and frequent sales. What's not to like about a place where you can buy anything, at any time, without ever having to leave your house, and where you never have to pay full price for anything? Shop thredUp.
