Putting together a skincare routine may appear straightforward on the surface, but it can quickly become overwhelming: Is it better to apply serum first, then moisturizer, or both? What in the world is an essence, exactly? Is it necessary to exfoliate daily?
You're not alone; every first-time user of skin care has been there. Even if you're aware that cleanser comes before moisturizer, you might be stumped when it comes to adding anything else. It's also critical to know the proper order in which to apply products. Your products can lose their effectiveness if used in the wrong order, but using them correctly can help you get the most out of them and avoid irritating reactions.
What if you're still unsure of where to begin or what to use? You'll find the answers to all of your skincare questions here.
Keep things simple.
Your skin doesn't have to be in perfect condition every morning by following a 10-step Korean skincare regimen. Cleanse and moisturize your face before applying makeup. Ready? Let's do this.
Cleanse
When you start from scratch, your other products will be able to carry out their duties. Whatever your skin type, you should use lukewarm water and your hands to apply a mild cleanser in the morning after cleansing your face the night before because there shouldn't be too much gunk left on your skin.
Those with dry and sensitive skin can benefit from cream cleansers because they contain nourishing ingredients such as oils. Because they're light and gentle, cleansing milks are an excellent choice for dry skin.
Cleansing gels for oily or acne-prone skin provide a more thorough clean. Look for a cleanser labeled "matt" or "detoxifying" if you have oily skin and want to remove dirt and impurities.
Consider a salicylic acid-based cleanser if you're prone to breakouts. Unclog pores and lessen oil production with this tried-and-true pimple-fighter.
Tone
Open your pores with a toner before applying the rest of your skincare regimen. Invest in a toner that doesn't contain alcohol, which can dry out your skin. You can find micellar waters or alcohol-free toners that contain active ingredients like chamomile, rosewater, or green tea. A calming effect is provided by all three of these ingredients. A salicylic acid–based toner may be a good option if you are prone to breakouts.
After cleansing, apply a toner immediately to lock in moisture. You only need to use one toner in the morning to protect your skin from environmental aggressors.
Serum
When it comes to skincare, the serum is the secret weapon. This type of anti-aging product is lightweight, almost watery, and absorbs quickly. The potency of serums necessitates that you apply them directly to your skin, allowing the active ingredients ample time to work their magic.
Vitamin C, an antioxidant that fights free radical damage, is found in serums and is recommended by dermatologists and estheticians. Wrinkles can be reduced by using apple extract.
Moisturize
Make sure to apply moisturizer to your face after washing it to replace the lipids (fatty acids) you've lost. Green recommends using a non-comedogenic, oil-free moisturizer if you have oily or acne-prone skin because it won't clog pores. Because they're so thin, gel formulas are ideal for people with oily skin.
If you have dry skin, you'll benefit from a thicker, more emollient cream. A product that provides more hydration can help protect dry skin. Hyaluronic acid, which aids in skin moisture retention, is one ingredient to keep an eye out for.
SPF
Your morning skincare routine cannot be complete without an SPF product. Sunscreen is essential for protecting your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause sunburn, wrinkles, and even skin cancer. Apply a nickel-sized amount all over your face with an SPF of 15 or 30 on a daily basis. If you want to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays, make sure your sunscreen is broad-spectrum.
