An increasing number of people are using outdoor pizza ovens, and it's easy to see why. There is no better way to achieve that wood-fired pizza flavor at home than by using one of these portable pizza ovens. They're just as easy to use as a traditional grill, but they're much more versatile because to their high temperature capability and ability to cook a wide variety of meals.
This was a long time coming, but we finally got our Ooni pizza oven a few months ago. Considering how much interest there has been in this product, I'm going to give you my honest opinion on whether or not the Ooni is worth your money.
Ooni Pizza Oven
The Ooni is a pizza oven that can be taken with you wherever you go. Within 20 minutes, it can heat up to 950 degrees Fahrenheit and cook a pizza in 60 seconds or less. You'll get the crispy, delectable crust of a wood-fired pizza oven with this oven.
Various Models
Depending on your needs and budget, Ooni provides a variety of models to pick from. Depending on the model, they have either 12" or 16" ovens that are powered by either wood pellets or gas. Size and specs can affect the pricing, which is between $299 and $799.99.
Is It Worth Investing?
The Ooni pizza oven, which starts at $299, is a significant investment. However, adding a pizza oven to your outside space may bring you delight and excitement on pizza night!
In addition, if you treat it right, this high-quality cooking device should survive for many years. In my opinion, if you're going to use it at least twice a month or more, it's well worth the money! Shop here.
Using the OONI
The Ooni pizza oven is a lot easier to use than you may expect! It was a lot less difficult than I imagined. Just set it up to high and let it heat up for 20 minutes once you attach the propane tank. After that, turn the heat down to low, add your pizza, and cook for a few minutes. Using the Ooni was a breeze, and watching my pizza cook was a lot of fun! When it comes to the oven, the front right side of the oven is a chilly zone, allowing you to better manage how the pizza cooks. The Ooni Koda 16 offers you enough of room to maneuver the pizza around while also keeping it far enough away from the flame to prevent it from cooking too quickly. Prep And Cook Time
According to the company, Ooni can cook a pizza in under a minute, which it most certainly is capable of doing. A few YouTube tutorials suggested that newbie pizza cooks like us could find it easier to dial the heat down and cook for a longer period of time at lower temperatures. As a result, the following is our go-to cooking technique:
- For around 15-20 minutes, turn up the oven's heat to high.
- Add a pizza to the oven and lower the temperature.
- It will take approximately 2-3 minutes for the pizza to cook if you rotate it every 20-30 seconds or so.
TIPS FOR COOKING
- Flour the work area on which you'll be assembling the pie. Also, dust the pizza peel with flour before using it. As a result, getting the pizza onto the pizza peel and into the oven will be a cinch. Although semolina flour has been recommended, we have had no problems using all-purpose flour.
- If you're not certain in your ability to move the crust, don't roll it out too wide. Assemble the pizza, transfer it to a pizza peel, and then slide it into the oven once it's ready. The easier it is to make a smaller pizza, the more time you save. There is a greater chance of a tangled mess if the pizza is huge. However, despite the fact that the 16" Koda can handle a 16" pie, we prefer to keep them between 10" and 12". One pound of dough is usually divided into two and used to make two pizzas.
- Overworking the dough will result in a tough crust. The key to a perfect pizza crust is to avoid touching the dough at all costs. Because my partner used to make pizza for a living, I'm really fortunate. Using your fingers, he advises rotating the dough in a circular motion to produce the crust. To increase its size, slap it between your hands/forearms repeatedly. The dough should be thicker at the edges and thin in the center. This is the ideal. This will give you the distinctive flavor of a wood-fired pizza oven. It won't cook all the way through if the crust is too thick in the middle.
- Your pizza will taste better if you don't overdo it with the toppings. Another approach to ensure that your pizza cooks through is to top it with very little topping. Half of what you'd normally put on a regular oven pizza is a good starting point. When it comes to transferring the pizza, the more toppings you have, the more difficult it becomes. Make it basic and light on the toppings. Making your famous extra extra cheese pizza is out of the question at the moment.
- Keep your focus. You want to give your complete attention to the pizza you're making in the Ooni as you're cooking it. It's critical to keep a close eye on the pie because it can go from perfectly done to perfectly charred in a matter of seconds when the oven temperature reaches above 900 degrees.
